Regular trackwork at the YVR!

Maintenance of the current operation section (4 km of track, 4 rail bridges and 1 tunnel) is an ongoing task for the dedicated team of Way and Works Volunteers. Over the last 3 months, focus has been on the trackwork within the heritage brick tunnel and the track on the UP end of the tunnel (towards Tarrawarra Estate). This has seen a number of improvements achieved with worn rails and sleepers replace and low spots in the tack lifted back up and packed providing a smoother ride and ongoing safe rail operations.

At the present time, the YVR Way & Works team has two (2) key focuses:

  • Routine works on the permanent way to ensure the Railmotor operations are maintained
  • Delivery of Australia’ largest volunteer project that will see the complete renewal of 9km’s of rail infrastructure providing a rail link through some of the most breathe taking parts of the Yarra Valley between Healesville and Yarra Glen

These important restoration and maintenance works are undertaken by volunteers – can you help? Visit our website to register as a volunteer today! www.yvr.org.au/volunteering
