The YVR Mechanical Branch Volunteers start straight away on the restoration works of 55RM.

With 55RM now housed within the Mechanical Workshop, the attention of the YVR Volunteers has turned to the restoration of this Super DERM (Diesel Electric Rail Motor). Restoration works have commenced on the internal passenger seating area of 55RM.

In 1978, 55RM was extensively modified and the internal seating arrangement was modernised. The windows were also upgraded to aluminium frames. Today, this ‘modern’ seating, luggage racks, fluorescent lighting and aluminium windows appears to still be in good condition, waiting for the first load of passengers from Healesville Station!

A full mechanical assessment of 55RM is also underway to confirm the restoration works list. The team is also looking at the works required to complete the waterproofing of the roof.

Well done to all Volunteers involved!
