Restoration works on 55RM are well underway - Can you help get 55RM back on Track?

The Super DERM 55RM is being restored to operational condition by the dedicated YVR Volunteers. Regular work days have been scheduled to tackle the task list of restoration items and works.

Major works completed so far include the removal of both main air reservoirs and associated pipe work, which are part of the braking system. These reservoir tanks will now be cleaned and then assessed to confirm if they are suitable for reuse or require replacement. The fuel tank has been drained and refilled. The engines have also been cleaned.

Damaged windows plus all end windows have also been removed for repair and works will continue on the body in preparation for painting of the exterior. Replacement batteries are also being sourced.

The Yarra Valley Railway would like to thank Daylesford Spa Country Railway (DSCR) for their support and assistance with this project. DSCR regularly operate a DERM and railmotors on the Daylesford to Bullarto rail corridor, and kindly shared documentation and knowledge on the operation of the DERM.

The Yarra Valley Railway would also like to thank Victorian Goldfields Railway (VGR) for their assistance with this restoration. Volunteers from VGR have spent time with key YVR personal, sharing knowledge regarding restoration techniques which we can now apply to 55RM.
